Mark Heap would be interesting. Though maybe he’d be better as a villain. You need someone with energy and charisma. That, surprisingly, narrows your options down by quite a margin. Who has Chris Chibnall worked with before that might fit that mould? _Broadchurch_ isn’t exactly brimming with energy, and there are too many _Doctor Who_ alums in it already. Though Lenny Henry is in it this year apparently. Ben Daniels from _Law and Order UK_ (and _Rogue One_) is an underrated actor I think, but he’s not really done any comedy to speak of. Hmm. Impossible to guess, I think. Also, probably a long way away from being decided. ---

Idris Elba would do a fine job but we don’t want him become like Morgan Freeman, and appear in everything under the sun. Every thing under the sun. How can you go wrong - ex Royal Shakespeare Company, the smarmy-evil Johnson on Peep Show which will keep the David Mitchell fans happy, and was a strong contender for Doctor 11 - which went to Matt Smith? ---

I’m not sure \*Timeless \*has screened in Australia yet. I could be wrong though, it does happen. If he is the best choice to play the Doctor, it should not stop the BBC serenading him outside his window. ---

I gave up on Doctor Who after Capaldi started. It wasn’t entirely his fault. I’d gotten more and more frustrated by Steven Moffat’s convoluted story arcs that rarely answered the plot questions he raised. You can only leave me scratching my head and asking “WTF did I just watch?” So many times. I eventually reach a point where I don’t care enough to watch at all. I may try a few episodes after Chris Chibnall takes over. It depends on who they cast as the new Doctor. I’m not wasting time if they resort to pathetic tricks like gimmick casting. ---

My wife and I ran into him outside his hotel room at a Dallas comic con. I thanked him for all his work at making my wife and daughter happy. 30 minutes later, I sent him a bottle of wine with the note “Don’t worry - your secret\* is safe with us. Welcome to Texas, from the couple you just met.” \*His room #, of course. ---

The 12-regen limit is actually from the old series. I don’t recall it ever being brought up as an issue in NuWho, so I think they’re ignoring it. I’d love to see Stephen Fry as the Doctor. If Lucifer were to (satan forbid) get cancelled, Tom Ellis (who appeared in The Last of the Timelords) would crush it. Also, James D’Arcy, who was Jarvis in the Agent Carter series, as well as a scary psycho in Broadchurch, and Hugh Dancy from Hannibal. Yes, I realize I listed all white guys. Can’t always fill the diversity positions. ---

Capaldi’s been great, and I’m sad to see him go, but overjoyed that Moffat is (finally) moving on. The problem recently has never been the acting. The synchronized timing stinks, though. I wish I could have seen Capaldi with a new writing team. ---
