If any single book ever needed to be stretched out into three films, it would be _The Silmarillion_. There’s no way anyone could do justice to it in three hours, so I’d pass.

Right, and Jackson certainly could make a film out of any of those. But why just one 3 hour film?

He did add plot. In fact his addition of the Necromancer was critical- since it was why Gandalf searched out Thorin, and it’s the why and wherefore behind the whole thing.

Yeah sure, Jackson also added some unnecessary action scenes, and a love story that makes no sense, but his addition of the White Council was brilliant, well done and critical.

Rabbit sleigh was fun, and it was nice to see Radagast.

But the worms were a bit much.

When the worms showed up I was waiting for Fremen wielding crysknives to attack…

Even Dain seemed to think so. When he growled, “Oh, come on,” I laughed out loud in the theater.
