Petraeus report will actually be written by the White House

No. The White House and the Office of the Comptroller are tasked with assessing all of them.

Seriously: it’s hard to imagine that a report sufficiently detailed to base an informed decision on needs to have more ‘granularity,’ as the phrase is now, than that.

So I call bullshit, as that other phrase goes, on the idea that a closed session needs to be much more than an incidental adjunct to the public report.

Sadly, we cannot know, as we are bereft of input from our acknowledged authorities on matters military and strategeric.

Only partly. The thing is, though, administration spokesmen and GW himself have stressed Petraeus’ role so much that it has been largely forgotten that the military surge is only the means to an end. The end being the politcal unification of Iraq.

I wonder how that’s going?

That’s the sort of intel they can’t share with us ordinary citizens, and you know it, you commie.

Commie is so 1960’s. It’s terrorist enabler these days.

Too bad they can’t be trusted.

Yeah, but I gotta show respect for your age.

Speaking of which, I was always really shaky on this part. How is the parliament supposed to unite the country? The fact that, like our congress, they are taking the month of August off is delicious irony, but it doesn’t seem that bad to me. Sure, the Sunnis leaving en masse was also pretty bad, but let’s pretend they were united. What are they supposed to do in a country of 26 million from the Green Zone? “Everyone! Listen! Stop killing Americans! And each other! And us! Pretty please?”

Seems to me if you want to really make things better in the short term you’d get the water and electricity running reliably. Baghdad in the summer without AC would make anyone testy.

Iraq was politically unified back in 2003. I guess at this point our goal is to try to take less than another four years to get them back to their starting point.

Well, with a lot of hand-waving and an occasions Shazam maybe they could do something.

It’s not ** my** plan. It the plan of the bigdomes who we pay the big bucks and give all the perks. Let them get busy and earn their keep.
