I don’t think you have talked to any Biblical literalists. Many are morons, but most people are morons no matter what they believe. There are also serious people who believe the Bible is the literal truth and understand that there are contradictions in it; they struggle to understand the contradictions. You may scoff at this but they do in fact believe.

Trying to pawn off direct and nonsensical contradictions as some sort of “paradox” or “mystery” to be solved is mere intellectual dishonesty. These people do not “understand that there are contradictions” in any morally-defensible way.

I have known at least three Biblical literalists (friends of mine for a few years) and met and spoken with many more. Their willingness to sacrifice their own integrity, intelligence, and honesty, in order to (in their minds) make the false claims appear true, was breathtaking.

Except that dark matter isn’t believed to be homogeneous at all - some of the best evidence for dark matter involves observations indicating non-homogeneous motion of dark matter ([astro-ph/0309303] Direct constraints on the dark matter self-interaction cross-section from the merging galaxy cluster 1E0657-56 discusses a particular example of this evidence).

The whole idea of equating the luminiferous aether with dark matter is ridiculous. The aether has properties that are not shared by dark matter:

By this point the mechanical qualities of the aether had become more and more magical: it had to be a fluid in order to fill space, but one that was millions of times more rigid than steel in order to support the high frequencies of light waves. It also had to be massless and without viscosity, otherwise it would visibly affect the orbits of planets. Additionally it appeared it had to be completely transparent, non-dispersive, incompressible, and continuous at a very small scale.

The only things dark matter has in common with aether are no viscosity and transparency. It’s not rigid, not incompressible, not massless. It doesn’t actually fill space, at least not how aether was thought to, so the continuous at a very small scale doesn’t apply. Since it doesn’t act as a medium of wave propagation, the non-dispersive property doesn’t apply either.

I don’t understand the snag… Let me see if I’ve got your question; You are asking the “Christians” who often claim that the world is a lot younger than you think it is; "Where did the oil that’s in the ground come from? ( since they believe there wasn’t Billions of years worth of plant life turning into oil during all those Billions of years ) Right?

So somehow you’re giving the entire Design and Creation of the entire Universe, with it’s seemingly endless array of Galaxies that it contains a pass… as well as a pass to the Scientific Laws that govern it, the design and creation of all the types of atoms, Gravity, All the Scientific Laws that we keep uncovering as well as the secrets that we will likely never understand such as how can a mass of unliving atoms and molecules somehow become not only alive but people with a consciousness… Your giving all that a pass, but you want to understand how a Christian who believes that God did all THAT managed to get the oil into the ground?

I guess they believe that if he could have done all that other that there must have been a Million way’s he could have gotten the oil into the ground… But I’m guessing that most of 'em just assume that when he made the dirt and rocks he also made oil and don’t worry much with it past that.

they worry a lot about all of it and have apparently constructed an entire alternate (fake science) explanation for all kind of things.

I only know this because I have been watching a PNW geologist live stream lectures from his back yard - Nick Zenter, find him on youtube if you like geology - and yesterday he read some of his “hate mail” comments.

Jehovah just wants you to think that. Remember, Earth and the universe were only created after what we now call 1900*. Jehovah fixed things to look older. What a cad! No, fresh new petroleum is divinely generated but we have to do the refining ourselves.
