one of my kitties is chango (monkey). when he was little, he would leap onto the fabric roman shades and cling. it’s a little startling to enter a room and see a cat plastered on the window treatment. maybe spidercat would have been a better name.
I named my cat Penelope.
After getting to know her better her name is either
PENNY!
or
Princess Penelope Prissypants
That is why my son called his grandpa until he was about ten. I have no idea where it came from. Bebop somehow came from grandpa.
Since we adopted both dogs as puppies, they learned their names pretty fast.
My 9 year old daughter named them.
Max from a computer game she plays called “Puppylove” (His original name from the breeder was Jaden which didn’t suit him at all)
And Sam because she said he resembled the Sam in her class. (Poor kid) I can’t remember what Sam’s name was when we got him but it didn’t matter because he didn’t know it anyway.
I sometimes call them by the other’s name but all I get is a “what are you a dumbass?” look. They won’t respond even if I am looking directly at them.
My youngest beagle is the sweetest dog possible but kept getting into trouble. She reminded me of OJ Simpsons character in Naked Gun. So her name is Nordberg.
My dad had kitten . His elkhound was making it tough on him. So he says take him and make him mean, then give him back. He became a monster. One day he was playing on my levis. As I reached hed to peel him off he just moved around digging his claws in. I said if he keeps it up I give him to my dad posthumously. That became his name Posthumous.
Even I, who bleed Union blue, can only say: Good call.
Sal, a charming black shorthair cat, came to us 13 years ago from a previous owner whose very young daughter wanted a female cat and had already picked the name “Sally” before Sal set foot in their house. He was male, though, so they abbreviated it to Sal. He seemed content with the name, so Sal he has remained. We joke that it reflects his Italian roots.
I dreamt my first dog well before I got her - this black and white dog came up to me and said, very clearly, “My name is Wizard. I’m your dog. Come find me!” I did.
My other animals have all been named by me, I’m afraid, although they are good names and they seem to appreciate them.
Noodle AKA: Noodle-the-boodle-doodle-bug-pie
Bunnie AKA: Bunnie-munchkinetta-buttetta, or Princess Foo
Katydid AKA: K-Diddy or just Diddy (I must stress, not a reference to a certain popular artist)
All 3 kitties know their own names and come when called. Believe it.
We were going to name our dog “spot” in the Hawaiian language. I looked it up: “Kiko”. but after a while we were mispronouncing it as “Kaiko” (undertow). Kaiko stuck and kind of fits.
My aunt had a cat she called Ralph. She said the cat’s mother named the cat. Mama cat would go to the back door and call: “Raaaaauuuuulllllpphhhhh” and the cat would come.
After much thought and soul searching I decided to name my may cat…
