Phil Collins Plotting Comeback: 'I Am No Longer Retired.

No, Phil, please!

I am not against this, but my question and curiosity lie in wondering how successful will he be? He would do well in terms of touring, as Phil Collins is a major artist but in terms of hit singles, that is whole 'nother ball game. Can Collins adapt to the pop music landscape of today? This is not the 1980’s and early half of the 1990’s anymore. Phil Collins has to change his sound to make it on radio and appeal to a younger audience, many of whom did not exist while he was in his prime.

That is where my hesitation lies. Phil Collins was not a very versatile artist in terms of style, many of his solo work is indistinguishable from his Genesis material. Compare that to someone like Sting, his contemporary, whose solo work was very varied and was NOTHING like The Police.

I am disappointed to here he is bringing in a drummer.

Not that I have anything against Jason Bonham but Phil is one of the best, and most underrated, drummers of all time. I would love to hear an instrumental album from him.

I wanna rock and roll, not the radio-friendly cringe-inducing crap from his last few albums.

I don’t think he’s capable of playing as well as he used to.

Why would he want to? I doubt Phil Collins gives a rats arse about selling singles to 20 somethings.

Maybe maybe not, but if his comeback includes releasing singles then this demographic is very important. But then again even older people may not embrace his comeback and he may be ridiculed by music critics and the press. And what is wrong with the younger audience? I think Phil Collins would appreciate it if he finds a fan base among them.
