My mother took me to a performance of the Everly Brothers when I was 5 or 6 years old. My first rock and roll show and one on my earliest memories. We had “Wake Up Little Susie” on a 78 RPM record and I probably wore it out. Here’s an appearance on Merv Griffin’s show in 1966. Phil doesn’t smoke but Don and Merv are going at it. Sorry to hear this. My first rock 'n roll record was a 45 RPM of _‘til I Kissed Ya’_. Must have been somewhere around 1958-1959 or so, and I first heard it on the radio when my mom drove me to school in first grade. On the original Cadence label - I still have it around here somewhere. ---

This one makes me very sad, the Everlys were probably the first artists I could recognize on the radio, and[this](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O32XTdv-0p4) chokes me up every time I hear it. RIP Phil. ---

Well, damn. I grew up listening to these guys and Roy Orbison. The harmony of the Everlys was mesmerizing, and it was a sad day when the string of hits ran out and they disappeared from the air. Bye-bye Phil. ---

Really sad to hear this. They sounded as good to me in 2013 as they must have for their first listeners. And yes, so influential. I just bought in the last year two separate albums of Everly-inspired music. So sorry to say good-bye to half of that angelic harmony. ---
