Phillies' new park has a name

Maybe Mrs. Field’s Fields!

Hmm…

All corporate-named ballparks are evil. :frowning:

And the Raptors play in the Air Canada Centre. Air Canada is bankrupt.

Actually, Busch Stadium (full name is Busch Memorial Stadium) is not named for the beer, it’s named for Auggie Busch, onetime owner of the Cardinals whose family controlled the team for decades. It’s not even the first Busch Stadium. Originally the Cardinals played in Sportsman’s Park. The name of the park changed when Mr. Busch bought the team. When the old Sportsman’s Park/1st Busch Stadium was torn down, the new (current) ballpark was officially named Busch Memorial Stadium for the old owner, whose number has also been retired by the team.

St Louis has been pushing for a new stadium for a while now, no idea what kind of stupid corporate name it’ll have though.

Gussie Busch was a charming “team owner,” but the team belonged to the brewery. I’m sure of this, as I was a stockholder in Anheuser-Busch, Inc. up until the sale of the team. The Busch family still owns lots of A-B stock, but the company no longer owns the team. The current owners of the team were adamant that the stadium, and the new stadium, would remain Busch Stadium. I don’t know whether that comes from a naming-rights contract or a respect for tradition.
