Well just yesterday morning I gave a homeless guy a cigarette and I was even nice about it.
But he wasn’t sure to conduct a field trip for his kids.
Sorry, I’m not letting him off the hook. His staff screwed up, but he’s not helpless. When it became clear that he wasn’t going to be doing anything, he should have just talked to the volunteers, or gone out and talked to the poor people huddled outside of the doors (if there were any). It would have still been a photo-op, but it would have been passable as an attempt to connect with The People. Now all we know about him is that he connected with a couple of pots and pans.
Pfft. You need to have your child give the cigarettes to the homeless. It’s all about giving the kids a greater sense of purpose.
BA in BS.
I guess I’m the only one think that anyone on a presidential ticket that brings the Secret Service detail into an industrial kitchen is severely lacking in empathy.
Bleeding heart liberal.
A compassionate conservative would have addressed the root problem by giving a subsidy to the tobacco industry.
As long as there’s plenty adequate loopholes on pre-existing conditions for the insurance industry.
There are reports that donors are now pulling their support from the kitchen in the wake of soupgate.
The soup kitchen should bill the campaign at least $50k for ‘promotion services’.
Now that just plain sucks. If its Republican donors being assholes, that’s vindictive and stupid, if its Democrats, its stupid and vindictive.
What is wrong with you people?
First, they are a 501c3, so they are by law required to be a-political. Their 501c3 status could at least be called into jeopardy and they’ll have to make their case if someone files a complaint against them. If that happens, then all of the 501c3s that might have been providing them with grants could hold up those grants (because they’re also required to only give the grants to 501c3 organizations).
Second, it is a relatively small town, so the loss of only one or two major benefactors could significantly hit their budget. This is the worst time of year, right before the holiday food drives/baskets that they’re expected to be putting together at the end of next month and for Christmas.
Finally, I personally think that if they have benefactors who have pulled out, it is more likely to be Republicans because the Soup Kitchen didn’t keep their mouth shut about what a dork Ryan was.
I think you may have mis-read me a little there, hoss, but it’s not a big hairy.
The article doesn’t say who’s pulling funds. If it’s lefties, they’re being assholes, but that doesn’t ring as very likely to me. Lefties have not seen the charity as villainous in this, but as mildly victimized.
I suspect that it’s righties upset at the president of the charity trashing Ryan in the press.
I could be wrong, but I don’t think I am. I swim in blood red commie waters socially, and I haven’t heard any liberals expressing any anger at the soup kitchen. I suppose there’s always a dickbag or two in every crowd, though.
DING DING DING We have a winner!
Assholes!
Just want to point out that Steve’s link includes info (at the bottom) re how to donate to the soup kitchen, if you’re interested.
This is still a useful stick to whomp on Ryan/Romney with. “Soup Kitchen Suffers Donation Drop Off After Ryan Photo Op” is a great headline for Obama/Biden.
I don’t think Obama/Biden should touch this. But, I’d love to see it get the Colbert treatment.
What is really bad is that --even if they do get through this year w/the news headlines-- they are probably now permanent screwed and in the coming years, they’ll probably end up cutting back on services.
Have any prominent conservative blogs been encouraging this (or maybe even calling out the people doing this)? I’d go read myself, but I prefer to keep my blood pressure down.
It’s the Harry Whittington rule. When a conservative shoots you, you’re supposed to apologize to him for any inconvenience you caused him by being shot.
Thus clarifying that conservatives don’t really mean it when they say that the social safety net is something that should be handled by nonprofits and churches, and that what they really do want is for the poor to be screwed.
