A few jobs back I worked for a company where one of my coworkers was a very attractive young blonde-haired woman that looked like she could be a model. She did the strangest thing as far as pictures I have ever seen so far. She kept a picture on her desk of herself in a skimpy bikini. If I had a picture of a swimsuit model wearing the same swimsuit, HR would have told me to remove it as it was sexist. I never did figure out, why she had the picture in her cube. I am not sure if she was showing off or just somewhat ditzy about these things.

Sometimes people use pictures like that as a motivator to keep eating right, working out, etc.?? It does seem inappropriate to have it on display in the workplace.

Thanks. I figured it would be something like that. You did a great job articulating it.

And I still don’t get it.

I think there might be something wrong with me. 😛

You and me both. Except that I know there’s something (probably multiple things) wrong with me. 😉

The only thing on my desk I would take if I was fired/layed off/flamed out and quit making a dramatic exit is my coffee mug. It’s one of those great travel ones from Dave and Busters that holds like 2 1/2 regular size cups of coffee…I love that thing.

I have a photo of my wife on my desk because she is the best thing that ever happened to me, and everytime I look at that photo, I remember that fact.

Some days it makes me happy, some days meditative, some days fulfilled. I don’t know how I survived without her before I met her. Looking at her picture reminds me I don’t have to again.

After I have faced death, disaster, failure or whatever the world throws at me, all I have to do is look at her photo and see that there is a reason for taking the next step.

Well, I’d say this is indeed unusual. Nothing wrong with it, though; whatever works for you is fine by me. I am curious, though: do you derive enjoyment out of any visual aesthetic experience? Do you derive pleasure from watching a sunset, or a particularly good painting, or what have you? What would your personal definition of the word “beautiful” entail?
I personally love going to art galleries and the like and will watch a bad old movie just to look at the retro clothes, architecture, furniture, cars, etc. And have a wee-un I can sit at look at, in person, for hours. But don’t get the pictures thing at work, and have none displayed at home either. Now I can and will think of people mentally many times a day, but am just not into pictures. And yes, I know I’m odd-I agreed with the post that people who go to movies on holidays are selfish a-holes 🙂

Also, I think part of it is that I am really sentimental, and looking at pictures, even happy pictures, makes me sad becasue I then think, where has all the time gone, we are all getting older and gonna die soon, etc.

What’s really silly is that we’ve been married for 20 years.
