Now that we’re on the subject, why _do_ people mutilate their beautiful bodies with those abominable “tattoos” anyway???

Slightly off topic, but the Guardian has just run a couple of articles (with explicit pics) about artist Laura Dodsworth, who took pictures of 100 vulvas and 100 penises, and published books with the pics and interviews with the owners. A soft-porn money-making project, in the guise of art, I would say!

She has chosen varied and ‘interesting’ bodies - definitely not porn stars.

Male. Never took a photo of my parts specifically, but inadvertently included a bit in photos of my post-surgical belly. I would crop the distinctive bits out if I showed the scar pictures to anybody. Heavens, it’s hard to imagine sending dick pictures to others. I also never received any.

I gather this is pretty common from men, including unsolicited pictures, which I really don’t get. Is this an age thing? -61

I thought [this CNN article](https://www.cnn.com/2019/02/09/health/reasons-why-men-send-explicit-photos-trnd/index.html) on why men send _unsolicited_ dick pics is timely. (The article says consensual texting is common.) Theories in the article:
\*\*

1. Most men are bad at gauging women’s interest. \*\*

> [@](#):
>
> Besides, Katehakis says, most women aren’t interested in pictures of penises at all.
>
> “They’re more turned on by (images of) a man’s eyes or his butt,” she said.
>
> Joe Kort, a relationship and sex therapist in Royal Oak, Michigan, makes the some point. “Most men really have thought that women would be open and wanting to see (a penis picture) and that it would make them sexually aroused. Of course for most women this doesn’t happen.”

1. **Men really like their penises and want women to share that**. To me this conjures images of proud grandparents showing baby photos to anyone around them: “Look how handsome and big he is!” As one shrink said,

> [@](#):
>
> “I do think that men perceive this as being more pleasurable to the recipient than it often is.”

\*\*
3. They get a thrill like flashers did\*\*/do.

1. **It’s a form of hostility and control.** Some of these guys like knowing they’ve shocked women.

2. **It’s a male-dominance thing.**

> [@](#):
>
> Detroit sex therapist Russell Stambaugh explained that sending pictures of private parts is a combination of seeking acceptance and intimacy, bragging and dominance-seeking.

1. **Impulsivity.**

> [@](#):
>
> “Thrill seeking behavior such as this with a partner feels safe but cybercommunications are really never safe and this seems to be a lesson that bears repeating.”

1. **Evolution** : It’s sexual signaling. At one time, signaling to lots of females meant less chances of passing by chances to reproduce. As the article notes, we have evolved, though, so this is no excuse.

Male. I have a few times, but I try not to do it too much since in the age of the internet nothing is sacred or private.

Though I don’t think it should be as taboo or forbidden as people say. Society has some kind of unnatural obsession with genitalia when they are just a part of our bodies like anything else.

After many years of intrepid navigation thru myriad online dating sites, social media and other forms of online co-mingling with my preferred gender, I am of the opinion that many more women enjoy (or at least display zero negative reaction to) getting pics of an impressive dick attached to a man they are attracted to than would ever admit to it in most circumstances. Like so many other situations between men and women, if a hot guy does it, it’s a positive. If a non-hot guy does the same thing, he’s a creeper.

> People get really weird about this topic. Apparently as soon as the camera was invented, people started taking naked pictures of themselves. Of course, there was no internet in those days, so those pictures would _probably_ stay private. Then came cheap video cameras and the internet, so now there’s sex tapes. And now there’s smartphones, with apps such as Snapchat that were specifically designed to send “private” photos to each other. (And for a time, there was an app to save these pictures.)

There are a number of websites devoted to vintage pornography. The best known is retroraunch dot info. They have a disclaimer stating that they are not responsible for any trauma incurred by seeing pictures of your ancestors doing it.

Straight male in his 40s. I wouldn’t go sending photos of my dong to random people but there exist(ed) some Polaroids and home video footage of sexy times – including said dong – from my younger days. I assume my partner from back then has gotten rid of her copies (and I have of mine) but, if not, so it goes. If someone is going to look at me naked they may as well look at me naked and twenty years younger.

So I have photographed my junk (and/or had it photographed for me) but not in a “send unsolicited to some unfortunate soul” manner.

you send it back with a rating [a 2.5/10 frex] does wonders at dissuading further pix. Or comments like ‘need to get that mole checked for cancer’…😃

Male here, I’m reasonably sure that I once accidentally (I misread an e-mail very badly) sent an image of my genitals to an uninterested party. At the time, I was deluged with e-mails falling into three categories

#1 ‘You are the very epitome of erotic manliness! Kindly send materials of yourself of the pornographic variety.’

#2 ‘What were your artistic/aesthetic intentions?’

#3 ’ You are sick! Sick, I say!’

I mistook a message of the second category for one of the first. I am genuinely sorry and apologize unequivocally.

Other than that, a long distance fan joked she wanted to see me naked. I warned her that I might actually send images. She then insisted on my sending them. I had a friend shoot some pictures. They’ve been e-mailed to various admirers over the years, and after getting aministrative permission I posted links to them in a thread I started. That thread resulted in a deluge of e-mails- one of which I misread.

But the best part is that a Trumpist tweeted “The correct word is vagina.” When it was pointed out that, no, the correct word is vulva, he refused to admit he was wrong and started speaking in gobbledygook. **The first person who corrected him was a woman gynecologist, and he told her she was wrong.** When a woman told him he was mansplaining, he said that was the wrong word, too.

My wife and I have exchanged many photos and videos over the years. So I have both given and received I greatly enjoyed the receiving end.

In the past I’ve had girls send me pictures of their breasts or them masturbating or close up genitalia shots but I’m not great at trusting so I didn’t return the favor to them. I still enjoyed receiving them and did my best to express my thanks.

The biggest problem is that while you like and trust the person when you send them it doesn’t mean you’ll like and trust them forever and that makes things a challenge for me but I greatly enjoy the concept.
