Photoshop help.. Everything gets purpleized.

I like a good mystery! Besides, it’s good to learn these things, since I never know when I’ll come across them myself. So, yes, it seems that however the color management works on your home PC, there is something that is applying different color management based on the ICC profile in the purple image. I thought profileless color spaces default to that sRGB, but obviously your system is treating them differently somehow.

Are you doing ‘save for web’ or just saving as a Photoshop jpg? The latter may contain the erroneous colorspace info, while I’m thinking the former will not.

Well…

I didn’t want to spend too long on this after work (very tired. long day). I made sure everything was ‘default’ in windows’ colour settings control panel. This didn’t stop PS from saving things purple.

Then I opened up the doc in PS, changed it’s colour settings to as ‘default’ an option as I could find. Still no joy.

then I found the ‘don’t colour manage this document’ option and checked it. This seems to have worked…

The one on the left is the original. the one in the middle is the purplized one. the one on the right is the un-colour-managed one.
I would assume that ‘don’t colour manage’ was mentioned in my first thread about this. I will re-read it tomorrow but whoever said it (if anyone) thanks.

And thanks again to the people in this thread.

I guess my PS doesn’t manage colours (or it’s a dark-art which I am not privy to)
jjimm I was just doing a save to jpg. I’ll see if save for web also fixes the colour.

Ok I think my computer is just messing with me now… If I view the images in IE the purple problem goes away on all affected images!
(I remember reading that all versions of IE don’t look at certain properties of an image file)

It does have an April 15th ring to it.

If you want to know lots and lots about this kind of thing, this book is excellent (seriously).

I think I have cracked it. I still don’t understand why it happens, but I’ve stopped it from happening.

I had a minor brainwave. I went into the nvidia control panel and checked the ‘other applications control colour settings’ check box.

The monitor’s colours didn’t change, but all the images that got purpleized are no longer purpleized on this monitor.
