That’s much better than the idea others have had, of picketing Fred’s own funeral, when it happens. Why should we sink to his level? I was once part of a group which, two Sunday’s in a row, sang Christmas carols across the street from where they were picketing. Some of us were religious, some not, some gay, some straight, and we sang both religious and secular music. On the second Sunday they had their own sign for us, “the sodomite singers”. And it sure is fun to belt out “Deck the Halls” and really shout the word gay. ---

A bill has been introduced in Indiana’s legislature to outlaw protests at funerals, though probably not in time for the Evansville event. I despise Mr. Phelps, but the bill is clearly unconstitutional. ---

I live in Topeka! The WBC pickets my church about two Sundays out of three! Someone come and bring the Guinness, and we’ll have a party. We Episcopalians are up for anything. I have a really neat picture from several years ago, of our then bishop, William Smalley, as he stood with a _Christian_ witnessing sign to help out a church which was being targeted by the WBC. He definitely wasn’t an ivory tower kind of guy. ---
