Picard

Well, that’ll show me for bringing up the Peter Principle.

Did you people watch Voyager? Voyager got hijacked. She came straight home, as fast as she could. Along the way, she accumulated a whole whopping pile of experiences you can’t get tooling around the Alpha quadrant (well, except for becoming Borg, but at least she didn’t wipe out half the fleet like Picard did). That experience is what Starfleet needs at the top of the command structure, not tied up in one ship.

Plus, they don’t seem to have much of a need for Voyager-class ships, so her experience with them would be not so helpful…

As fast as she could? She had the perfect opportunity to come home in the very first episode!

A good read is The Court Martial of Captain Kathryn Janeway.

It sure did, hijacked by the Kazon, hijacked by the Hirogen, hijacked by those weird aliens who transported on one by one, everyone was Shanghaied by that planet that needed workers, everyone was captured by the sleeping aliens (except Dream Machine Chakotay!), Janeway couldn’t hold on to her ship for ten minutes!

Seven of Nine can hold on to my ship for ten minutes!!!

Oh, sorry. I thought this was the Pit thread about virgins.

Carry on!

Yeah, but has he published?

Oh wait, that’s tenure-

Well, they’ve said several times that humans in the 24th century have no material needs, so it’s not like promotion is really going to do that much for him.

Have they ever explained why a Frenchman has an English accent and recites Shakespeare instead of Moliere/Voltaire/Rostand/etc.?

No.

But, in Star Trek continuity, all frenchmen have British accents.

Seriously.

I’m sure I’ve posted this before (maybe in the other thread), but for emphasis:

In Star Trek it is BETTER to be Captain than Admiral. Captains get excitement, adventure, and really wild things. Admirals get paperwork.

Brian

Two theories:

  1. During the 22nd century, Britain will conquer France and ruthlessly supress its native culture.

  2. Picard is really speaking his native French but the Universal Translator is rendering it into English. Picard programmed the translators to add an English accent because he thinks it sounds cool.

Of course I’ve watched Voya…zzzzzzzzzz wha? Oh yeah, I like pornography.

All right, that’s my kind of hijack!!!

Oh yeah, what were you expecting Picard to sound like? Maurice Chevalier???

I always wondered why Picard never mentions Jacues Cousteu
(forgive my misspelling) he is the sort of person Picard would have at least KNOWN of and possibly regarded as a role model early in his career.

Earl Gray is a English tea,you would of though he drank wine and eat snails

Oh so the Enterprize is the flag ship of the fed, well why did it never seam to be around when there was the war with the demoin?

Hola!

The reason Picard is still a Captain is that Capt. Kirk told him that if he wanted to fly ships and explore, being a Captain is a perfect job. It is also stated that being an Admiral is a bullshit job with no travel or adventure.

I thought Voyager sucked, but Kate Mulgrew (Janeway) was one sexy ol’ gal. I loved that two pack a day voice of hers. I’d give her the warp core anytime. 7 of 9 was nasty.

SENOR

Well, the Enterprise-D’s Captain’s Yacht was named the Costeau. So I’m sure Picard’s acquainted with him if he’s important enough that four hundred years later, he has a ship named after him.

Argh!The Calypso! Not the Costeau!

I really wish we could edit our posts here.

More troubling: why wasn’t there a flag officer (i.e. an Admiral) permanently assigned to it?

Actually, the series might have been a lot more interesting if Picard had been the Admiral (and thus in charge of all the away missions, first contacts, diplomatic crap, etc) and Riker been captain of the ship, in charge of all the battles and whatnot.

Also were was the suport ships? When does any navy flag ship leave dock on its on?
