Sounds like a case of “back to the future” – I just retired my old Motorola flip phone that I loved because it was durable and compact and could be thrown in any pocket. Sadly, my carrier was discontinuing CDMA service so I had to get something new that was GSM/LTE capable.
I realize the OP has now made his decision, but on the subject of new low-cost phones, I really didn’t want or need a smartphone but as an existing customer who was being forced into a new phone by network changes, my carrier offered me a Samsung J3 at no cost with no contract and operable on my cheap grandfathered monthly plan. Not being a traditional smartphone user I have nothing to compare it to, but it’s small and light – very slightly smaller than the Moto G4 – and to my eye, a really gorgeous display. In terms of features folks may be looking for, the battery is easily replaceable – in fact it comes with the battery packed separately, you pop off the back and drop the battery in at the same time you’re inserting the SIM card. It has an SD card slot, came with Android 6.0.1 but according to rumor should soon be upgradeable to 7.0 (Nougat), not that I really care. Anyway, thought I would mention it as I really like it despite not wanting a smartphone, and it’s hard to beat the price of $0. I think the regular retail is about the same as the Moto G4.
Tired and Cranky, have you got the phone? Are you happy with it?

I just happened to be forced into buying a new phone as this thread was developing. Most reviews were also very positive about the Moto g4 (not the play or the plus, but “standard”… so I bought it. Thusfar I’m very happy with it, some good things:
Some minor negatives:
Biggest annoyance was how the price dropped with 40 euros about a week after buying it:cool: (paid 199 euros, now it goes for 160).
Another vote for Moto G4 here, bought mine on Prime day, originally thought it was “too big” but became accustomed to it in a few days, best phone for value I’ve ever had, great battery life too.Unlocked. Supposedly getting Nougat this quarter (not holding my breath on that) Amazon has the best price I believe, but I was in Costco last week and noticed a display full of them, maybe the price is about to come down?
