Pickton trial - Police lied. So?

Nah, pretty much the worst of it is Rick’s spoiler box. Cops and journalists have known about this evidence since day 1 of the investigation, and we’ve been sitting on it ever since.

Who knew it’d take this long to actually get to a trial?

It could have been caused by several things:

– His lawyer may have been filing motion after motion to get delays. In some areas, jail is much more comfortable than prison, especially if he’ll be going into general population once he’s sentenced. Delays also give the defense a chance to look at every shred of evidence and try to find loopholes or mistakes to capitalize during trial.

– The prosecution may have wanted to wait to make sure they had every shred of evidence possible. Yeah, it looks like an open-and-shut case, but over-confidence can come back to bite you in the ass. With something this big, you want to make sure you have every “I” dotted and every “T” crossed.

– The courts are busy. A trial which is going to take a long time is one which has to be scheduled far in advance. The wheels of justice grind very slowly.

– There’s probably a good bit of delays caused by discovery requirements. Getting the tests back, sending the info to the defense and giving them time to run their own tests may slow things down quite a bit. When there’s a lot of forensic evidence, this process would be even slower.

Eh, shaddap you! :stuck_out_tongue:

I pick option ‘b’ Lissa, because there’s other stuff that I’ll keep quiet about until it’s officially revealed in court.

Barbarian: From you posts on this thread it sounds like you are on the inside of this trial in one way.

Am I reading this correctly?

Nope. Just a regular old journalist who hung around cops who talk a wee bit too much.

Many of us are actually very good about keeping quiet on certain topics

When Pickton is in prison I hope that he doesn’t become an attention whore like Clifford Olsen.
