How did Pico de Gayo get its name? It literally means beak of the rooster or Roster tip. ---

That should say rooster tip, not Roster tip. ---

From [here](http://www.texascook.com/totallytexmex/34.html), they say it could be from the sound of the knife on the cutting board as the chef minces, dices, slices and smashes. I have a WAG I’ve never been able to confirm or disprove. I suspect that pico de gallo is derived from a French recipe, that would have been called something like “piquant de Gaulle”; whaddya think? ---

Maybe they just grabbed it from the explorer of the same name, kind of as a tribute, like oysters rockefeller…??? ---
