Ah… this reminds me of the radiography manuals they showed us in CRC school. What I though was funny is that most of the manual was on relatively cheap paper, but the radiation burn pictures were all in glossy full color. Anyway, they all had “Not Permitted for Reproduction. Use granted for this publication only.” or something similar printed under the pictures. Actually, I take that back, I think it was only under the picture of the kid that stuck the iridium source in his back pocket. Series of photos taken over two years detailing all the stuff they tried to do to flesh spackle this rotting crater in his ass cheek. Still hadn’t healed after two years, but it had an exciting lumpy appearance. ---

I just got done reading the Wikipedia descriptions of the “tubgirl” and “goatse” pictures/sites. Both of the pictures described sound like run-of-the-mill stuff from the porn my ex-bf used to leave lying around his apartment. :eek: I thought they were going to be really gross photos, like of dead people or something like that. Oh, and why in the fuck would you use photos of a harlequin fetus for shock value? That’s someone’s dead child - someone’s beloved baby. Somewhere, a mother will mourn for life over each one of those children. Messed up or not, they’re still babies! Assholes who put up those sorts of sites deserve a thrashing. p.s. thank God I have a nice relationship with a good guy who doesn’t like porn all that much! ---

There was and maybe still is a pic on rotten dot com of an eldery man who died in his bathtub, with a heating element heating the water. He also was not found for a long time. Sounds pretty similar. ---

Apparently, this sort of thing happens more often than I thought. I worked with this particular girl back in the mid-'80s, so I’m pretty sure Bucket Lady happened in the early-'80s or maybe the late-'70s. ---

I’ve seen a lot of medical advertising with pictures of extreme tissue damage, and most of them don’t use the damage as the “arresting visual,” which is what I believe bothered the OP. You’ve all probably seen that stark, grainy photo of the German soldier aiming his rifle at the cringing woman with the baby in her arms. I won’t link to it, but for me, that’s always been the worst photo ever taken… as well as one of the best because of its perfect compostion. Goya couldn’t have conveyed a more powerful image. I know that at least one punk band has used it for an album cover, and that doesn’t bother me, since, as punk, it’s approprate to the context. I’ve long believed that dark humor is an effective protest against the evil it depicts: the viewer is shocked at the poor taste of the humor, and then re-evaluates the source. Eg.: on my bullitin board there is that photo of the ARVN colonel in a flack jacket shooting the plaid-shirted Viet Cong in the head, from the Tet Offensive. I’ve removed the colonel’s double-action pistol and repositioned him so that his empty fist is twisting the Viet Cong’s nipple, with the caption “the Tit Offensive.” Hopefully, the viewer will be so offended that any previous complacency toward the original photo will be dispelled. Sure, I come off as a sophmoric ass, but the the issue of simply shooting people in the head has reaquired the gravity it deserves. But if some idiot were to place that photo of the German shooting the mother in a self-serving context (“This is why we need gun control,” “Why is this worse than abortion?”…) I’d be pissed. ---

Ever see that Dead Kennedy’s album cover or poster (or something) where the famous picture of Jack Ruby shooting Lee Harvey Oswald is manipulated (very cleverly, IMO) to make it look like they’re a band jamming together? ---
