I don’t see why he wouldn’t, he grew up in England and most of his colleagues were English. I realised when I was responding the only recording I’d seen of him was [this one](http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=dxe5F7nUYsc#t=21s). There’s also a good documentary of his life starring Benedict Cumberbatch (in which he is portrayed as speaking with a British accent). ---

One of the things he was amused about once he got a computerized voice was that it had an American accent. According to Wiki he still uses his original computerized voice even though it’s no longer being produced because he’s become used to it and prefers it like it is. ---

I believe it was the American accent of Hawking’s voice equipment that led to a US newspaper amusingly claiming “_People such as scientist Stephen Hawking wouldn’t have a chance in the UK, where the National Health Service would say the life of this brilliant man, because of his physical handicaps, is essentially worthless._” ---
