Here’s a fact: my username is “Liberal”.
Yep. That’s a fact. Utterly unqualified, and stripped of all history and context. My refusal to acknowledge your mask is an attempt to acknowledge that history and context.
Lissener, your refusal to acknowledge Liberal’s proper username is, if not being a jerk, on the verge of it. It’s rude, and regardless of any history between you, unnecessary. We all know who Liberal used to be, and despite your concern for newbies, they’re allowed to form their own opinions. For what it’s worth, he has not changed one bit under the new name.
Haw. Exactly my point.
How many fucking times do I have to say it before it gets through that thick little skull of yours? Know what? I’ve told you enough, as have all the other carbon-based life-forms here. TYM was way too polite to you.
You’re beyond a jerk. Even being an asshole would be an improvement. Calling you an idiot would insult idiots as they can sometimes do a username search. (Hell, I did one earlier this week)
Until you learn the correct name for Liberal, I suggest** lissener ** be referred to as december.
If he wants to get the name wrong, I’ll do the same.
Whatever.
(Note to self: ignore intentional derailments of the actual content of the thread; just fuels the fire.)
Um, this is a Pit thread. Libertarian pissed me off, in a Pit thread. IOW, yeah I know it’s rude, but I thought I was sticking to the rules nonetheless.
Just a quick question here, but does that mean that you’re going to ignore your hijacking of your own thread?
Every once in a while I’m reminded why I should ignore most posts. I usually ignore that instinct threads which I initiate; it seems rude (HAW!). Unfortunately, by responding to every single post, I lend the issue (hijack though it is) a stridency I do not feel.
I have given very, very little thought to The Doper Previously Known As Libertarian. Despite the amount of energy I’ve devoted to it here, I’m really not obsessed with giving him what for. I just tried to explain–and the explain and explain and explain–why calling him “Liberal” would make me feel manipulated and insulted and naive and idiotic. So I’m not gonna do it. I’m also not gonna devote any more of this thread to him. Sorry I contributed to his martyrdom; I’m done.
must perview
Sounds like something Monty said nearly a year ago and got a few more enemies for it.
You’re correct, it’s not a rule. I guess I think of the Pit as a place for frank and open exchanges of views. I don’t like messing with people’s names. Whether it’s a real life name or a username. Even when I’m being vicious, I use the correct name within my barrage of hostility. “Rude” may not have been the right word, but still, refusing to use another’s proper name just ain’t right.
lissener, even if Liberal had an insidious plan to deceive new Dopers with a username that might make them think he’s a lefty, it wouldn’t take them long to see that he’s not what the username implies.
And if he’s trying to hide his history, a quick glance at his post count would show that’s just not freakin’ possible. He’s certainly not going to be able to count on help from people like you who are bound to expose him and his evil plans.
Just take his name change for what he claims it to be and don’t sweat it so much. It’s the most probable of all the possible reasons anyway.
See, it’s like this: Hers was funnier and a more effective and accurate comment. The Three Stooges were not the first to do the “Niagra Falls” bit but theirs was the funniest and is the one we remember. It’s the difference between competence, even original competence, and artistry. I know it can be hard to be Salieri to Jar’s Mozart but perhaps you should accept your place.
Well you got me there. That spanking stings. What time can I expect you tonight to soothingly rub oil on my ass?
In the interest of fighting ignorance, the alleged enmity between Salieri and Mozart is a myth popularized by fictionalized movies and plays. Salieri was a successful composer in Vienna long before Mozart left Salzburg, and he admired rather than envied him. In fact, he tutored Mozart’s surviving son and was well known for his support of young composers.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, and Mozart was the one who envied Salieri because he was more successful COMMERCIALLY. And I don’t really know if the original “Niagara Falls” routine was really less funny because they didn’t have movie cameras back in the Paleocene.
I’m going to have to hit you now. In a figurative, non-violent manner, of course.
What the fuck was this thread about again? Talk about hijacks gone wild…
As best I recall, we were discussing Japanese relations with Poland in the 13th century.
And as I recall I was against it and you were for it. Or I was against BECAUSE you were for it. No Polish guy gets to have relations with a Japanese woman if I can’t.
Classifying words according to your own usage other than how, say, the dictionary does. (My electronic dictionary - Microsoft’s Bookshelf, classifies “retarded” as offensive adjective - makes no quibbles about it.) Or the very population that is likely to be offended by the manner in which you use the word. What’s next? We bring back “nigger,” or “kike?” Those words have gone out of popular usage, too. Should we just label them “archaic” and get on with re-introducing 'em to our common grammar?
That’d be . . . gay.
And all this applies eqaully to you, Mr. Gamera, lest you think I’m letting you off the hook. What you do by parroting offensive speech does nothing but shows you to be an unthinking marionette. As well as a fine way to perpetuate prejudice. Each of which is anathema to this website.
You guys are assholes.
