If the dog is protecting you from a bear or a Presa or other serious threat it’s probably a good thing. If the dog goes after a kid—like dogs of every breed have done and will do—it’s a quality you wish wasn’t there. You’re free to disagree with that if you’d like.

Your cite stated that a pit bull had an uncanny abiity to discern when the family was threatened, and would not attack otherwise. I pointed that out to you above, so I’ll ask again. Do you think all these alleged maulings by pit bulls of 5 yeard old kids were a case of the dog protecting the family? Since this “fight to the death” trait is only triggered by such a threat, how else do you explain it?
