Some of it is less “complaining to the mods” and more “playing to the audience”, I suspect.

I get that, but I don’t understand what audience they are playing to. Who is their virtue signaling meant to impress?

Think of it as a support group for the ultra vile. They get to be there for each other between half-hearted fits of flouncing and, we can only hope, eventual banning.
