# Pit the Insanely Clueless about The World

To this day my wife maintains that the neighbors across the road have a different electrical utility service than we do, despite the fact that our respective services come from the same pole line, the pole their power comes from is clearly tagged for the same utility that provides our power, and the tree that took out the line in February left both of our houses dark.
There ain’t enough :rolleyes: available for her illogic.

Watching James Burke on _Connections_, my wife and I heard Bob muttering into the phone “He and his girl watch more channels above channel 13 than anybody I know.”
My God, and he drank too, drank like the proverbial fish.

When I bought my house, the property next door was in foreclosure. My real estate woman told me the story. Mr Idjit decided he wanted a pickup truck. His wife agreed, since it is a rural area. She assumed they would find an old truck in the paper. He went out and bought a brand new, high end truck.
Mrs Idjit freaked and told him to take it back. He refused. So, she went out and bought a brand new sports car. Each made the payment on their own vehicle, _but that left no money for the mortgage._ :rolleyes:

OK, I’ll bite. What, exactly, _is_ her thought process here?
And are you positive that they don’t buy their electricity from a different power company? My understanding is that areas where you can buy from multiple companies, they still all use the same lines…

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. When I lived in Houston, we bought our power from a different company than all our neighbors, a company that relied partly on wind generated power. Same power lines and everything, we just paid the money to a different power generating corporation.
Mostly I was using this company because every three months they sent us a coupon for two free pints of Ben and Jerry’s. 🙂

Ignore the entire topic of marketed power, because the argument is about who owns the poles.
In my county, there are 2 power companies, Big Dominant Power, and MomNPopCo-op. Everyone along my 3 mile long road is served by a line that belongs to BDP.
I _THINK_ what’s going on in her head is that when we bought the place and went about getting the utilities in our name, we assumed MNP served us, and we went through a couple of days of confusion trying to find the former denizen’s account until we talked to BDP.
We live on the west side of the road, but our address is in the town to the east. Our neighbor on the east side has their address given as the town to the west. The other neighbor to the south also have their address as the town to the west.
In the end, I believe all of these bits of illogic have fused in her mind, resulting in the notion because Fred across the road has a different zip code, he also has a different utility company.

An ex co-worker had the PIN to his ATM card written on said card with a big black marker. Could never remember the PIN he said. When asked about getting the card stolen and his account emptied, he replied that when the card is in the machine, the thief wouldn’t be able to read the PIN.

My 2 cents:
One customer I know said, **in all seriousness** , that he was considering moving to China because he heard that’s where all the jobs were going. :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes:
Nevermind they pay about $.05/hour for the type of work he does here in the US (washing dishes).

When I first moved here (to the US) I was asked by at least a dozen different people “what language [we] spoke in England/Britain.”
My usual answer: “Swahili”. I got responses evenly divided between a sincere, “Really?”, “What’s _that_?”, and “Why are you being sarcastic? We’re in America. Not everyone knows about foreign languages, you know.”
To which I’d usually mutter, “… or domestic ones,” and wander off to find someone with two brain cells to keep each other company.

Friend-of-a-friend’s wife is pregnant. (2nd child). They are planning a home birth, which of itself is fine. They have a midwife but based on comments I am not certain she is in actual attendance (wife said disdainfully, “we don’t need her.”)
Baby is more than 4 weeks over due. They won’t go to a hospital because (paraphrased) “hospitals don’t respect women and will hurt my baby.” Gentle suggestions from other parents that mom & baby-to-be should get checked out medically are met with defensiveness and hostility. They are so sure they are in control of the process and know better than anyone. It’ll be 5 weeks overdue on friday.
None of my business but ☹
