I’m familiar with the standard conservative tropes confusing acknowledgement of racism and racial discrimination with “race baiting”, and confusing liberals with “communists”.

But in what way are you suggesting that the SDMB “glorifies” “the mentally ill”? Are you just referring to the general liberal principle that mental illness should be acknowledged and treated rather than considered a shameful stigma?

Or is what you’re talking about the baseline SDMB position of rejecting homophobia and transphobia? Is this another of those situations where somebody seems to have made some progress in overcoming reactionary views but then relapses right back into them as soon as they feel provoked about something? Because it’s getting more and more difficult to blame your current rhetoric on your hypothetical asshole brother-in-law.
