I’d always assumed the Queen just climbed right up the elevator shaft. I doubt a climb of that sort would be that difficult for an alien.

OK, I guess I was the only one who saw _Pitch Black_ and wasn’t impressed with Vin Diesel’s character at all. I thought his character was a walking cliche whose mouth was stuffed full of canned, stale tough-guy one-liners. Not that this is necessarily Diesel’s fault; I assume he didn’t write the lines.

There was only one part of the movie that I really enjoyed, and that was the eclipse scene. I will unabashedly admit that I replayed the whole sequence four times, from when the travelers first walk outside to see the ringed planet breaching the horizon to when the light finally fades out. That was truly spectacular, even on TV; I wish I’d seen that part on the big screen.

Too bad that, as usual, no one could be troubled to lavish even a tenth of the same effort on the plot or the characters as they did on those stunning visual sequences.
