I know that this kind of stuff never comes down to one game, but does anyone think that if WVU puts on a good show on Saturday against LSU, and if our fans can keep from throwing beer at Lee Corso and burning down half of the state, that it would help our chances in the SEC/ACC? Maybe a little?
Shouldn’t they just merge at this point? IMO it assures their survival and helps non revenue athlete’s travel.
Not all the BE plays football. Where does it leave G’Town, Villanova, St Johns? Charter members of the BE.
It is a great deal for the Big Ten while it is a TERRIBLE deal for the vast majority of cable subscribers who don’t watch TBTN. This is a rant for another thread but why should my cable bill go up so that the Big Ten can get rich? If people had ala carte choices on their cable channels I doubt the TBTN would have many subscribers.
The only way this would happen is if WVU has not been turned down by each conference already. If one game mattered, Pitt would have been booted by the ACC for blowing a huge 4th quarter lead against Iowa last week.
They can’t right now. Too many schools still left in both. I wouldn’t be surprised though if some of the schools from the remnants of these two conferences end up together.
Unless some sort of an agreement is reached, schools without football programs are out completely, like a St. John’s. If a Villanova or G’Town wanted to move to Division I-A in football, I guess they could move if they met the criteria. UConn did it a few years ago. Villanova could probably do it fairly easily, they often have very good I-AA football teams. I don’t know much about the G’Town program.
The biggest thing that will happen to any school left out of the super conferences will probably see a reduction in their TV money, especially if they are now in a big conference.
I agree with this. I love Pitt sports, but I’d never pay for a BETN unless I had a child playing sports in the conference.
I’ve looked at the TBTN twice. Both times happened to be showing women’s volleyball. I don’t know what they are charging me for the channel, but a dime is 10 cents too much.
