Yeah, a lot of that going on here. Maybe it helps I (like ace) grew up in Arkansas and surrounded by absolute idiots, but I have no problem believing ace isn’t actively malicious but really and truly simply that stupid and indoctrinated in his beliefs from a young age. He basically reminds me of nearly all the people I grew up with from before grade school. And while some of that shit is deliberate from them, a lot more of it is an unflattering combination of total ignorance and utter inanity. Yeah, it’s scary to think human beings can be that staggeringly stupid, but it’s something I’ve dealt with for decades, so it’s hardly flabbergasting at this point. The level of idiocy most people around here appear to estimate people can be and still function in society vastly overestimates the real figure. ---

Yeah, I get that. But posters around here also seem to underestimate how much of that garbage is simply unquestioned as it is ingrained from a young age. People are surrounded by it from the time they are born. That’s still a problem but not always a deliberate choice on their part. And when you add in the stupidity, they don’t even realize it is possible to think their way out of it. So, yeah, I approve of the opprobrium. But I see it more as a distinction without meaningful difference. It doesn’t much matter in practical terms if it’s deliberate or not. If it was just a few idiots on the margin of society, it might matter. But there’s too many of them and it’s a real issue. ---
