I’m a white woman of German descent who dies her hair red. Damn me for trying to look Irish. I used to die it black. Damn me for trying to look Mexican/Japanese/Welsh. When I was a teenager I bleached it. Damn me for trying to look Californian. It’s hair. Women like to play with it. Get over it. ---

I dwelt on this one a while back and it reminded me that, after all these damn years, I know not a jot about women. Anyway, here’s musings. Most women mess with their hair most of the time – it’s genetic, they can’t help it. So it’s not like it has an ‘original’ state (of being) anymore to go back to it’s always going _somewhere_; they treat it like we treat a hobby. I think. And that goes for all their hair, not just the head stuff. So, firstly, all women and hair = perpetual improvement mode. Another thing, maybe there is a layer of sub consciousness about being conventionally western. Ditto Asian women and makeup – being western means the whole consumption thing; hair, nails, makeup, clothes, fashion, endless friggin list of stuff that women in generally do in our society. Doesn’t matter what the colour of the skin is, they have to have all those products several times over because they’re caught up in the buying-makes-you-look-and-feel-better culture. Believe me, there’s other stuff they’re doing you can’t see. That’s why an analogy with, say, African women doesn’t work; African women have a whole distinct culture cos they’ve come here (where I am, anyway) from Nigeria and elsewhere. The women you’re talking about come from down the road, they’re as much caught up in this western consumer bullshit nonsense as the rest of us. If you don’t believe buying something will improve you, then buy anyway cos it makes you feel better. But I guess that still means why straight ? I guess because it’s the ‘norm’ in our societies. Weird thing for me is that I’ve noticed more beautiful black women since the straight hair thing happened and I think that’s because I’m used to . . . what do I mean here . . . judging women with straight hair. I’m an expert in that; women with straight hair I know about. That’s all I grew up with - tell me about female black beauty icons before, say, Naomi Campbell and that bird in James Bond. Not a lot, so it didn’t compute. Nah, that didn’t quite come out right. Anyway, fact is I’ve noticed more black women and if the game (for women) is to attract as many potential mates as possible, on a survey of one, it works. Again, cultural training. Go figure. I think there’s other stuff as well but . . . anyway, I predict the fashion backlash begins in about . . . 3 hours. And I want a high five for using ‘culture’ and not ‘roots’. Colour me outa here. ---

Pitting a jack-assed stranger for for having the shriveled up balls to think he can decide how the fuck I should wear my hair. That’s what wrong with the neo-conish. They think they know what is right for everybody _and_ their children. Well, I like to straighten my twat hairs and curl my ass hairs. And I never once stopped to _think of the children!!_ I’ll look white if I want to. Like straightening my hair all of a sudden makes me look like Farrah Fawcett-- or Alice Brady for that matter. When I straighten my hair, nobody ever, ever thinks I look a like white woman. Go figure. ---
