It (Dodgy\_Dude) is a bot. “Why do people like gravity? How is it real?” Same thing. I think we"ll see some of these posts quoted on the Tucker show tomorrow, as “What theft really thinks about Trump and how violent they are!” Wouldn’t surprise me. ---

Let me just remind folks that Dodgy Dude is the same poster as @A_Dodgy_Dude. Note that A Dodgy Dude last posted (and visited) the board on June 9, 2020. Dodgy Dude joined the board exactly one month later. They post the exact same stuff… Also, Dodgy Dude’s “name” (what you can put in your name field for your account here) is literally “A Dodgy Dude”, same as the older account. I don’t even think this is technically socking, my guess is that it was lost access from the old account, and they created a new account with practically the same name. (A number of people have done this, especially when we moved to Discourse.) So if you want the full body of work for this poster (going back to 2008, a year before I joined) you’ll have to look at the old account too. Anyway, this was brought to my attention with yet another thread created inappropriately. Actually, the thread itself isn’t bad, I even posted in it because it’s interesting, but the thread name has nothing to do with what the thread is about. You’d think they’d know better after posting here for 15 years. (The thread is called “Kelly’s Heroes and Die Hard with a Vengance” and was posted in Cafe Society, even though it’s a thread about what you’d do with a bar of gold bullion and has nothing to do with either film.) ---

Showing up late to the party to add that I strongly suspect that _any_ poster that couldn’t manage to log in to their SDMB account after the change to discourse was engaged in sock behavior and just forgot which throwaway email address they used to register that particular sock. I further suspect that where, as here, there is a pattern of a poster posting disproportionately in low-effort threads of it’s own creation, over a long period of time but with frequent periods of inactivity, that the account is demonstrating sock behavior. Threads expressing a lack of understanding about why people hate Trump only further cements them as a trock, IMHO. ---

Suspect is one thing, but loads of posters, well established posters had issues with the move from vB to Discourse. As far as trolling goes, this barely counts it seems. If he’s a troll, he’s a very minor one. ---

Usually, when someone had a hard time with the transition, it’s because their email address in their profile wasn’t current, which could mean that it was a throwaway email address, but it could also mean that it was an email address associated with an ISP or workplace and they’ve since changed that (remember, this board is old enough to go back before the notion of a permanent email address that would stick with you through jobs, schools, ISPs, etc.). Technically, it was a violation of the board rules for those folks not to go through and change their profile when they changed their email address, but it’s not a violation that we’re overly worried about enforcing.
