Fusion ignition in small artificial reactors requires a temperature of at least 100 million degrees Celsius (much higher than in stars) and since the cob acts as an insulator (or possibly a heat sink – it was never clear from the previous discussion – maybe it was both) such temperatures could never be reached even with the most intense focused radiation because AIUI the cob would just radiate the heat away from the kernels, preventing thermonuclear ignition. AFAICT the only way to ignite fusion in an intact corncob and counteract the cooling effect of the cob is to throw the whole thing into a supermassive black hole. This, however, is not seen as a practical source of energy from corn. It’s considered more practical to throw corncobs into the core of a conventional uranium fission reactor. After the usable energy has been extracted, the corn can be planted, thus producing more corn in an endless cycle of free energy. Why this hasn’t already been done is not clear. ---

You can plug a toaster into nearly anything. Whether it can toast things while plugged into that thing is another story. I have a feeling (so I’m convinced that it’s true, and I will endlessly argue that it is) that if you plug a toaster into a piece of toast, you can then drain the toastiness from that toast as power to toast another piece of bread. The original toast will go back to being untoasted bread. I’m basically a scientist you know. ---

I was hoping that someone, somewhere, had made a sourdough bread powered battery (like a potato or lemon battery) and was sorely disappointed by Google. I will revive my sourdough starter and give it a try, for science. ---
