I bet if the same women wore a nice homburg, or trilby, or bowler, or porkpie, or Abraham Lincoln style stovepipe, conservatives would object to that, too. ---

The idea that American-ness demands that your spouse not display a symbol of her belief. Where does that come from? What other faiths have been subject to such a rule? The fundamental characteristic of American-ness is that we get to choose how to or how not to express ourselves. ---

Many [American Orthodox](http://www.vosizneias.com/107806/2012/06/12/new-york-nyt-aided-by-orthodox-citys-jewish-population-is-growing-again/) wear clothing and head coverings that are very different from mainstream American clothing. Are they not integrating? Is this something to be criticized and discouraged? SpoilerVirgin, who wears a headscarf almost every day for warmth, not religion. ---

In **DerekMichaels00** ’s book, being “integrated” as an American is all about being pro-Israel. Head coverings are only un-American when they’re worn by people who are not pro-Israel. It’s very logical, if you hold it at a 75-degree angle and cross your eyes to juuust the right amount when looking at it. ---

My mom used to wear a headscarf but she doesn’t any more so apparently she’s been ‘assimilated’ or ‘integrated’ or whatever. By who I do not know since she’s always been a Lutheran. ---
