I promised myself that I would never post in the Pit. But since it’s the only place where I can speak my mind, it appears that I will have no choice.

First of all, I am not defending what I did. Actually when I say what I am about to say, I want to be clear I am speaking broadly and generally. (Also I am not an atheist FWIW.)

Something has clearly changed on these boards, especially since I joined over twenty years ago. Back then, if I brought up something like the [DES/Lesbianism](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/diethylstilbestrol-and-lesbianism/955508/46) thing, I would be applauded. Now people tell me I am worst than Hitler. No, something here has definitely changed.

Also, in a broader sense, we need more freedom of speech protections on message boards, protections closer to what the first amendment would provide, if this were a government entity. I realize that it isn’t, and that it doesn’t. But maybe someone should rethink that. I know statutes certainly could give us more protections on the internet. I wasn’t sure where I stood on this issue before. But now I think I am more certain.

But I certainly accept the moderators’ ruling. And I do intend to abide by it 🙂 .
