well, the sAin’ts are the most snakebit franchise south of Wrigley Field.

Nobody’s made the inevitable reference to North Dallas Forty.

That was bizarre.

Poor guy, I hope he can afford a bodyguard.

In other news, both the Broncos and the Cowboys won. This sucks for me, as I grew up in Colorado and my beloved is a Cowboy fan.

Not like a Denver/Dallas Super Bowl is going to happen this year. But if it did, well, I’m sure I’d end up with a broken heart, no matter who won…

I was at my girlfriend’s parents house with her family watching the Cowboys game and when it was over, the local station switched over to the New Orleans game for the last minute. I saw glimpses of the last play through the crowd and was all ready to see the rest of what I thought was going to be a great game in overtime. All of a sudden, the TV goes dark and my girlfriend’s step-mom, not a football fan, announces no more TV…it’s “family” time. Damn.

The game I was watching had ended, so the switched over to the end of the 'Aints game with just over a minute left. My inital thought was “I hate it when they switch over to games that are all but decided”. Then it was down to what, 13 seconds left? The ball gets batted down. I seriously was just about to switch the channel, but hey, 7 seconds left, I might as well see the bitter end. Even though I had no real vested interest in the game.

I have to say I was cheering when he made that touchdown. That was one of the most amazing plays I’ve ever seen. I hate to admit though, I laughed when he missed. It was just too ironic.

It should be noted, the holder, Mitch Berger, was until this year a Viking. If there is one thing the Saints should learn, it’s this: The Vikings will always screw up their playoffs, given the chance. That’s just how fate works.

Run Away! Run Away now, before it’s too late! There will be other girls, many fish in the sea, etc., etc. Get out now while you can!

Speaking of the holder, Carney apparently complained about the way Berger was holding the ball. Haslett told him to “live with it.” The hold was screwed, or so sayeth the TV. Thanks, Jim.

I wonder if the worldwide effect of thousands of Saints fans/NFL fans saying, “They’re going to screw this up!” had any effect.

**wmulax** -I remain unoffended, and I keep wondering why Millen is still employed. I feel for you guys, I do, it’s just that the Lions just LOSE, where the Saints lose in spectacular fashion.

It sounds like the family WAS doing something together, and having fun, and Mom pissed on it. Classic passive-aggressive maneuver.

Anyway, I’d like to send a Louis Armstrong song in tribute to the Saints:

“Do you know what it means to miss, New Orleans?”

While that was a horrible, crushing way to lose – it wouldn’t have mattered.
You guys needed to win out and you still needed help…and you didn’t get any. Minnesota won, Seattle won, Dallas won, and Green Bay is currently stomping the piss out of the Raiders.
So, even if he had made the kick, you guys had gone to OT and won, you would been eliminated tonight.
Feel better? 😃

at least it wasn’t the first missed field goal of the year at home in overtime during an NFC title game.

Holy shit man. Follow the other post’s advice and get away from that as fast as possible. That’s not only rude, it also shows the sort of bullshit you will have to deal with throughout the entire relationship.

My wife and I were vacationing in New Orleans this weekend. Sunday was a beautiful day, with temperatures in the mid 60s and a clear-as-a-bell sky. I was waiting for her as she was taking pictures on the intersection of Beinvillle and Bourbon. Suddenly, the whole city seems to erupt in cheers. Whatthehell I think, and I remember that we saw part of the first half while we were eating our muffalettas at lunch (how touristy…) Saints must have pulled it off, I assume.

We kept walking. A few seconds later, the entire world erupted in groaning. Saints must’ve blown it, I assume. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined it going that way…

Gives a whole new meaning to their old nickname, the Aints. Well, I have no room to gloat, as I’m from Houston. You see us fuck it up on a 4th and 10 this week? And on a 4th and 1 last week? Not that it compares, but hey, at least you didn’t blow a 35-3 halftime lead in an AFC wild card game. And yes, we are still bitter about that, thankyewverymuch.

Not that our aggregate football pain comes close to yours. The Oilers made the playoffs several years in a row (but never won); we have a beautiful new stadium and a great new expansion team that we aren’t yet expecting to win. But let me be the first to send a big Clintonian “I feel your pain.”

Which sounds less painful?

“Yea, we were eliminated cause our kicker shanked a PAT after one of the all-time great plays.”

Or…

“We were eliminated after a couple teams won that shoulda lost.”
