Pjen and Steophan

Ignore only works if everyone goes along with it. It’s not just about making the thread look prettier for people who want to post. Shouting matches inhibit conversation in general. Casual readers who might have otherwise contributed to the discussion, but who haven’t enacted the Anti-Pjen/Steophan Protocol, would see all that nonsense and move right along.

It’s like the Game Room/Thread Games split. Saying “just ignore what you don’t want to read” isn’t a solution if one type of content is choking out the other altogether.

Or you could start your own tread and direct it the way you wish to.

I use the scroll wheel for certain highly predictable posters who post low grade content. But ya never know, broken clocks, etc.

I’m pretty sparing with ignore. I use it for posters who sometimes have interesting things to say, but consistently screw up their facts. It’s more difficult for me to just pass my eyes over their post. So I use ignore, to spare me the effort of internally devaluing their unsubstantiated claims. I think I’ve done this twice, once with a poster who is now banned.

Serious proposal. Why don’t we politely ask Pjen to restrict her Scotland comments to a single thread, one preferably started by her? Pjen might need mod permission and she would be accused of making it into her personal blog. Thoughts?

It would not solve the UK politics problem though. And she might want exceptions: maybe she could post once a day in Scottish threads created by others for example.

Which you have to admit is kind of awesome. It’s like the NSA has taken control of Sun-Times Media.

You can start your own thread, but you can’t keep people from posting in it, nor can you direct what other posters say.

Correct. The OP does not become the owner of a thread nor does he get mod-like powers within his own thread. As long as posts are within the rules the OP does not have the power to stifle a response.

Given that one half of the duo has now been banned this thread is now closed.
