MLB will decide what city they will move the Expos to. That decision will be made based on a careful analysis of all the prospective locations, with appropriate emphasis on which one offers the best long-term potential to help generate interest in the sport, even if it doesn’t offer the best short-term profit.

- Drug testing will be mandated for all MLB and asterisks will be placed next to Bonds and Sosa for their home run records.

- Congress will tell MLB to move the Expos to Washington or lose the special anti-trust exemption

- Mike Piazza will be traded to the Astros and become Roger Clemens’ best friend.

- Jeff Weaver will prove that he can be a good major league pitcher in any city not named New York.

- The Detroit Tigers will surprise everyone and take the AL Central this year.

- A fan will fall out of the upper deck in the new park in Philadelphia. He will be booed.

- Fox Sports will again spend the all-star game looking in vain for a player that cares about the home-field advantage angle.

- Willie Randolph will finally get a well-deserved chance to manage.

- Bartman will throw out the first pitch at Wrigley Field. He will be booed.

- The Yankees and Astros will play in the World Series. The Yankees will light up both Clemens and Petitte.

- A pitcher will have a no-hitter going into the bottom of the seventh. He will stiffen up during the silly God Bless America break and give up 5 runs.

In all seriousness, I think the Tigers have a nonzero chance of finishing out of the cellar this year. The AL Central is no less a mess than it was last year, and the Tigers took a couple of steps toward something only a few notches removed from respectability in the off-season. They ain’t gonna come anywhere close to contention, but will anybody have a heart attack if the Indians lose 95 this year, and the Tigers lose only 90? Now, I’m not so foolish as to suggest there’s a bettable chance of this happening, but I won’t be shocked if it does.

Top of the ninth, Cubs are winning by 1 run, two out, nobody on, in seventh game of the world series at Wrigley. A line shot into the third baseline stands caroms off a hot dog vendor’s head, and flies back onto the field of play. A goat runs onto the field, grabs the ball in mid flight, and heads for center field. The goat slithers through a open door and out onto Waveland Avenue. A home run fisherman with a large net catches the goat, tosses the ball back over the bleachers onto the field. The left fielder catches the ball in flight and the batter is called out. Cubs win!!! Cubs Win!!!

furt my man, I think JerH was trying to make a point using sarcasm, in that he thinks (and I agree with him) is that what the Lords of Baseball will most likely really do vis a vis the Expos is to go for the biggest short term buck regardless of the long term market potential.

Hey, I have a longstanding bet with a Tiger fan friend of mine. The fan of the team that does better (Indians vs. Tigers) has to buy the other fan a Coke.

He’s always willing to bet, so there’s at least one Tiger fan who thinks it’ll happen!

Mostly it’s that I live near DC, and I’ve been watching MLB jerk us (and the other cities) around for 2 years, and it doesn’t look like they’re in any damn hurry to make a decision. And even if they do, it’s looking like they’ll end up picking the city that gives them the most money and the best stadium deal (as long as its not DC, because if they did that then DCers might stop going to O’s games).

(Of course, I really just want the Expos in DC so that I don’t have to drive several hours to see my beloved Pirates a couple times a year.)

The Detroit Tigers will win the World Series, giving Alan Trammell his second WS ring (to go along with the one he won as a player in that long ago and far away season of 1984)!

I don’t think it could get any farther out than that.
