The Northrop X B-35 Flying Wing was muy sexy!
Strangely enough, that photo is taken at the airport I fly from. I’ve flown most of those blue and white C152’s you can see in the background.
Just sayin’.
The Do X took all possible advantage of the wing-in-ground effect, although I don’t know whether it was a known principle in those days. I do know they had constant problems with fuel consumption, and found that they could stretch their range somewhat by flying at literally wave-crest altitude. Several overwater legs of their world tour in 1931-'32 were flown no more than 2 m above water.
