Planning Cross-Country Roadtrip - Suggestions Wanted

We’ve seen the Grand Canyon before, so in the interest of time we’ll be skipping it this time, but we were thinking of stopping by the meteor crater in Arizona.

Today we played tourist in northern Texas, having lunch at the Big Texan (but no 72 oz steak for us this time), and then stopping at the Cadillac Ranch. The central US has kept up its reputation as being windier than I thought possible, and we’re now relaxing in Santa Fe, NM.

I’ve never taken a road trip out west, but my husband has. He also lived in OK for a time before we met and used to make the drive from there to here in MA a few times a year. He says the exact same thing. He also says that it’s quite the culture shock if you’ve grown up, like we did, in a crowded relatively small urban area.

I visited Texas once. I’ll never forget the flatness of the interstate coupled with how huge the sky way driving away from the airport. It took my breath away but also made me feel very agoraphobic for a spell there.
