No, that wasn’t me; I’m in the Tampa Bay area, although it wouldn’t surprise me if Moss Feaster also had funeral homes up Amelia Island way-- they seem to be a fairly successful franchise, somehow. “We take you where you want to be!” Hah-- totally in character. Anyway, I’m glad to have some confirmation of my view that Florida funeral services are just generally weird beyond all get-out. I think it may result from a combination of extremely rapid growth and a somewhat older residential demographic in certain areas. If your population is largely transplanted retirees with few local relatives, why bother to make a big deal out of insubstantial qualities like ‘decorum’ or ‘taste?’ Why not run your funeral home out of an old furniture warehouse, or a Hardees? Is anyone really going to be bothered that much that there’s a big ceramic cat sitting on the roof? ---

We did this in high school. There was an abandoned mental hospital outside of town. We broke in (like many before us I’m sure) and spent the night there in our sleeping bags amongst the filth & debris & ghosts and smallpox & other rumored diseases invariably still hanging around the place. It was fun. Boy were we hung over the next morning though. ---

Well, this is ridiculous…my wife’s company outsources their system administration, and it seems whoever set up their network decided to flex his nads by limiting the hours they can log on (this is a small office – no one in charge here would request that be put on the system). Fortunately, they have a neighbor with an unsecured wireless setup. 🙂 Anyway, I’m here…I’ve scoured the place from basement to attic, and all appears to be kosher and quiet. I expected to find some sort of animal droppings in the attic, but nope – nothing of the sort. Not that it really matters…I had figured what people thought were footsteps on the stairs was actually animals in the attic. No way…I never paid attention before, but damn those are some seriously creaky stairs. No mistaking them for anything else. Well, hopefully whoever’s bandwidth I’m stealing doesn’t shut down their computer when they go to bed. More later, I hope. ---

The bad news: Linksys neighbor busted me, and secured his network. The good news: I was able to get my laptop onto the company network without hitting the BS time restrictions. The creepy: I keep hearing whispers. I _know_ it’s my imagination fucking with me, but I keep hearing them nonetheless. Stupid brain…doesn’t it know we’re supposed to be on the same side here?! ---

I can’t help but notice the wife hasn’t yet posted any encouragement in your dark hour of need. Are you keeping her appraised on the progress of your spirit ordeal via cellphone? Has she gone to sleep already? Or is she going through those old ledgers looking for the funeral arrangements of any famous historic New Jersians? No offense, but that’s what I’d be doing. ---

She’s at home with the little one…we’ve been IMing. I’ll be moving my setup upstairs in a bit. My wife pointed out that no one has every had anything odd happen on this floor – only the second floor and the basement. And as much as I don’t believe in ghosts, I’m not immune to being creeped out – so no, I’m not hanging out in the basement. On preview: No more whispering. My brain and I have come to an agreement. ---

How does this prove anything if you don’t go to where the haunting is? That is patently unscientific and you know it. Ahh, but the only odd thing that happened in the basement was the maintainance guys hearing footsteps overhead…so there’s obviously nothing to be gained by spending any more time down there. No, I’ll just stay up here where the _real_ haunting action is going on. ---
