A friend posted [this](http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f44/JoeyJoeyPP/plant_zpsaf30971c.jpg) on FB, I gave her my best guess but she’s still looking for a few more opinions.  
Any thoughts?

Looks like something in the [Agave subfamily](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agavoideae).

When I first saw it I googled ‘purple aloe’, based on that I came up with Aloe Marlothii which is what I had told her. I didn’t want to put that in the OP though so as not to get people started in the wrong direction.

Looks like an aloe vera plant to me. Ran into one while racing motorcycles in the desert once. Very sharp ends!
