# Playing Music on WMP

Well for years we have had heaps of MP3’s and WMF on our computer and have happily played them through Windows Media Player…
Well I woke up one morning and decided to whack on some tunes and low and behold I CANT play any songs through WMP and more!! I get the message saying:
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.
I am quite computer literate but not with all these music player things…So i am now using Itunes and I dont like it. And realplayer wont play files that are not in MP3 format… Can anyone shed some light on this or suggest a really good player that I can download for free and plays all my files??

I dunno what happened to WMP, but you can give [Winamp](http://www.winamp.com/player/free.php) a try if you’d like. I’d suggest the Lite version unless you need the other features.
