I considered posting this in GQ, because I am looking for a factual answer, but, hell, I’d probably end up hijacking it around to discussing the game, anyway… Anyway, I bought Final Fantasy Chronicles yesterday and have been playing FFIV for the past 2 days. Here’s the problem - 2 of the 3 times I’ve turned on the PSX with FFIV in it, it’s given me ‘Please insert a Playstation CD-ROM’. Resetting it has fixed the problem both times. The only other times I’ve ever had a problem with the PSX not reading a CD were with a burned music CD and with a badly scratched game. This game is non-pirated, and brand new, so unscratched, so I don’t think it’s my system. Anyway, what I want to know is, is this a common problem with the FFIV conversion? (The Chrono Trigger disk seems to work fine.) ---

I don’t own the game, but I do go to [http://www.gamefaqs.com](http://www.gamefaqs.com) sometimes, and I remember them posting an alert on their homepage about this problem. This is a factory defect. Apparently, this is a common problem with the game, and you might have to exchange the game for another copy at wherever you got it. They’d have more info at their website, I’d assume. And about the game itself…well, I’m still stuck halfway through Final Fantasy 9 since I got my Dreamcast …\… ---

I have the same problem with disks 2-4 of FF9. When I called up Square, the tech insisted it was because my PSX was old (which it is), and that I needed to use the “flip trick”, which means turning the PSX onto its side before turning it on. This works, but I’m starting to think that the Square tech was shining me on, since I’ve restarted FF9 and I had no problems with the first disk. If resetting becomes bothersome for you, try the flip trick. I got the game a while ago, I’m not even sure WHERE I got it. I’m rapidly becoming disenchanted with Square, especially after buying the FF9 Official Strategy Guide. Here’s a tip: save your money. The guide will only direct you to to Square’s PlayOnline site anyway. Just go to gamefaqs instead. ---

Go ahead and buy the Chronicles one, though, it’s quite good. ---

I’ve got FF2(a)(IVj) and Chrono Trigger on SNES carts. I’ll probably get them on PSX discs, too, just for backups, as I don’t expect my SNES to last forever. ---

(I’d use a SNES emulator on computer for strictly backing them up, the PSX versions are for the added toys. ^\_\_^)
