I’m named for a Robert Heinlen character, from Stranger in a Strange Land. I don’t even particuarly like the character, but I was re-reading the book for the gazillionth time, (because I do really like the book), when I signed up, and after staring blankly at the screen for too long I decided to go with a name from the book. And the other female characters tend not to have last names. Except for Dawn Ardent, and I wasn’t going there. And the astrologer, but I don’t do astrology. Also the wife of the Secretary General, but she’s awful, I would never use her name! I don’t hate Gillian, she’s just too stereotypical for me. In one way at the beginning of the book, and in another by the end. I like her best in the middle of the book. ---

Back in my past, there was a series of fishing trips with friends where, for some bizarre reason, no one would catch any fish until I had hooked two trout. Day after day. They started calling me “Heap Big Chief John Two-Trouts” and the TwoTrouts part became my nickname. :rolleyes: ---

I got mine from a Son Volt song (off of the Strightaways album). The songs is great, not too had to play on guitar, and it has a nice odd ring to it. -Cem ---

I was feeling very lazy when I joined, and didn’t feel like making a clever name, so I went to my book shelf, pulled off a random book and took a character from said book. This book was _The Man Who Never Missed_ by Steve Perry. ---

But although I have read those books, I wasn’t at that moment. Also, I don’t think I’d have the guts to name myself after any of those characters. They are either too exceptionally talented (especially in math) or too exceptionally “talented”. ---

To a musician, any musician is a cat, like in “hep cat.” Or at least used to be back when beatniks were beat and niks were _far out, man._ So you con **cat** enate “music-” with “-cat,” drop the redundant “c”, voilá! And for an added bonus, some people think it means where the music is “at,” and I’m not about to correct them; that works, too. ---

I was watching _Transformers: Beast Machines_ when I first registered. There was a female spider-robot on the show that another character had nicknamed “ladybug.” I thought it was cute, so I used it. I’ve tried to change my name a couple of times since then, but each of my choices was similar to an existing username. ---
