A _wampeter_, from Kurt Vonnegut Jr.'s book _Cat’s Cradle_, is something around which the lives of many (usually unrelated) people revolve. Kurt Vonnegut is my idol… I go by **granfalloon** on an online Scrabble ™ club. ---

Mine is a type of killifish. I did a highschool project way back in the mists of time called “The embryogenesis of the killifish egg,” featuring pictures of the eggs of Aphyosemion australe and Rivulus holmiae – which are conveniently see-through and relatively large so the embryo is easy to observe. It was a fun project involving attaching a camera to a microscope and fiddling with lighting and whatnot to take shots of the eggs over their approximately 14 day development from fertilization to hatching. [Aphyosemion](http://www.bka.org.uk/piclib.php) species are pretty. Some rivulus species are [fascinating](http://www.biol.vt.edu/faculty/turner/rivmar/). Anyway, I got a bachelor’s degree in biology, then completely switched fields. “Rivulus” appeals to my present “armchair scientist” status. ---

Bob Dylan’s song “Visions of Johanna” is one of his most impressive songs from the 1960s, IMHO. I take after Joan Baez in some respects. My maternal grandmother’s name was Anna, which is etymologically connected to the same Hebrew root as in Johanna. ---

I can’t remember when exactly I started using Jman, but it’s been a pretty common handle for me for quite some time. I also used Saigon for quite a while, but that fell out of use quite some time ago. My first name starts with J, so it’s not a big secret. I think someone called me J a lot online at one point, so I just added ‘man’ to it. I’m actually surprised that I was able to get ‘Jman’ on a board this big, since Jman isn’t uncommon, and I often have to add numerals to make it my name on other message boards. Luckily, previous Jmans usually don’t post, so I don’t have conflicts. 🙂 ---

i SO hate having to add numerals there are other “anyrose”'s out there but I have a suspicion it’s me from an early time (AOL/Compuserve/Prodigy etc) There are a few boards I had joined forever ago, and stopped posting. When I went to log in months, years, later - I had forgotten my password, and the email address I had been using at that time is long since inactive - so I created an alternative which sounds the same but is spelled _eneerose_ to use in those situations Or sometimes I just stick the last two digits of my birth year on the end and be done with it ---
