My Dopername comes from the fact that I am, in reality, a troublemaker. Not in a bad way, though. I’m someone who does not hesitate to get involved when I see others being treated badly, especially children. If there’s a group of people talking about a subject and everyone else seems to be agreeing just to get along, I’m not afraid to be the lone voice of dissent. I’m not scared to question authority, shake things up, effect change in how things have always been done. Sure, my friends and family have been known to turn around and walk away quickly when they see that I’m about to “make a scene”, but somebody’s got to do it. And that somebody is me. ---

The first time I met my husband’s friend, I was sick. I asked him if he would pick up a prescription when he was at the liquor store. The pharmacist couldn’t read the doctor’s handwriting and asked our friend what the first name was. He couldn’t remember (my name is rather different and we’d just met) and he said, “I dunno…Kalhoun maybe?” So that’s what the pharmacist put on my pill bottle. It stuck! ---

When I signed up, I took the name **Mayflower** –it was the one I used for many sites and I chose it because I was born in May. But I got tired of it–like I said, I was using it for a lot of different websites and it just got old. So I went to a thesaurus and looked up the word “singer” because that’s what I love to do (I have my own karaoke machine–how geeky is _that_?). **Chanteuse** was my favorite synonym, so I emailed an admin–and the rest is history! 🙂 ---

I bought a pair of cheap sunglasses at the supermarket (in California) for a hiking trip. They were Panama Jack brand (and I had no idea they made other stuff in Florida). These particular glasses had ‘dust blinders’ on the sides. My friends soon discovered that I had almost no peripheral vision with them on, and would try to distract me, often to no avail. We created silly characters along the trip, and I made up ‘Panama Jack’, a clueless, swaggering guy who spoke with an Australian accent and referred to many things as being ‘the size of a wallaby’. He eventually admitted he really wasn’t from Australia and had never seen a wallaby. It became my nickname for a while, and though no one calls me that anymore, I never bothered to change my user name (though I did drop the accent when I registered). ---
