How did that even address the issue? Yes, parts and labor are free when the car is under warranty; in other news, rain is wet. What is the cost of parts and labor when you have to pay it out of pocket? In my experience, very expensive relative to comparable automobiles.
You and me both! I was a long-time Honda girl, but now my heart completely belongs to my Legacy GT. Nothing special to look at on the outside, but rather “posh” on the inside with some serious get up and go. Quite comfortable for long trips, more than sporty enough to get around that semi and handles well in bad weather. I knew within the first 30 seconds of my first test drive that it was true love!
My turbo-charged highway mileage runs about 27, in-town around 22 (depending on how much I keep my foot off the accelerator - which is tough!). It does take premium fuel, but the driving enjoyment I get in return is more than worth it. I don’t think the naturally-aspirated version gets much better gas mileage, but it should still be comfortable and fun. Subaru is also getting top marks in safety these days.
It is a good-sized four door, but it doesn’t feel “frumpy” at all.
not just broken parts, dude – oil, wiper blades, every single service. This is NOT the case with most car service plans. It’s certtinalty not the case for under warranty VWs or Volvos. If it is for Suburu, it might give me a reason to by what by all estimations is an over priced niche vehicle.
Look I didn’t even challenge your exaggeration on value dropping by half (as I understood it to be uninformed hyperbole). The NADA on an 07 328 is between $27,000 and $33,000. They did not retail for $56,000 to $60,000 in '07.
Also, you recommend Volvo. Talk about expensive to maintain. You’re putting brakes on every 24,000 miles at a price of $180 for as pair. Also, not anywhere near as nice as BMW. Reliability ratings not even close. Trust me, I drive a Volvo. My wife drives a 3 series. We’ve had other Vovlos, BMWs, and a Honda. If you want an inexpensive car to maintain and reliability, get the Honda. Your car will have the personality of Al Gore, but it will last forever.
With Jodi driving 30K miles a year she’d be out of factory maintenance within 2 years. Assuming she wants to keep the car longer than that, she has the option of extending the service agreement, adding additional cost to a car that is already over her budget. BMW Service is considerably more expensive than her other options outside the free* service period, which is where she’ll spend most of her time.
missed the edit window - that’s why I asked what your experience was. If you’ve owned one, you know you don’t even pay for services, much less repairs, while it’s under a warranty that can go as far out as 8 years or 100,000 miles. is this also the case fo Suburu? I can assure you, it is not the case for Vovlo, VW or Honda.
you make a good point. I did fail to take that into consideration. My wife and I do the worst possible driving for car “health” – 30 to 45 minute, 8 mile commutes. In her cas,e I would get a Honda or its pretty twin, the Acura
I don’t know what the price tag is on these, but my girlfriend is positively smitten with her Mini Cooper. It’s roomy on the inside, small on the outside, she’s had no maintenance problems…she’s nuts about it!
