Please help me switch from Palm to smartphone that syncs with Outlook

Itouch does a lot of what you want, but you will definately miss not being able to throw stuff on SD cards.

astro: Thanks! That’s great information. I informally asked one of my IT guys at work who I’ve known for a long time and he tells me I’m not supposed to use any non-company equipment to access company networks. Which means I’m violating policy with my Palm. I may wind up doing it anyway. I don’t like the idea that I’d have to manually enter all of my calendar events, but we’ll see.

I’m leaning toward the Droid X, but in light of what sevenwood said, I need to go to the store and try that and the Incredible out. I have small hands so the Droid X might be too big.

Thanks all, for the help!

The original Droid doesn’t have any form of MotoBlur- it’s just stock Android.

My bad. Must have been one of the ones between the original Droid and the Droid X. (Most of the Droid X reviews said something like “At least Motoblur doesn’t get all in your face with this one”, and I just assumed they meant the original Droid.)

I have a Palm Pre Plus on Verizon. The battery life depends a lot on how you use it. I generally get home from work (where the signal is lousy) with about 50-60% battery left. It needs to be charged every night, but that’s easy enough to do with a Touchstone, which is the coolest thing in the world.

It doesn’t sync to Outlook over a wired connection like the old Palms, but it’ll access most home emails over the air. If you have Gmail, it will automatically sync your contacts and calendar. I imported all my Outlook stuff into Gmail, now I just use Gmail for contact and calendars. You can have several emails set up on the same machine. I haven’t had any need for the Exchange server stuff, but it’s supposed to work with them.

The OS has nothing to do with the old PalmOS, but it’s great. Very easy to use once you learn the basics of gestures. There aren’t as many apps as Iphone or Android, but I have everything I could need.

Does anyone know of any newer phones which will sync with standalone Outlook, rather than Exchange?

Someday I’m going to have to quit using my Treo 650, though I don’t look forward to it.
