It sounds very Russian to me, late 19th century. I know I’ve heard it someplace before.
I thought maybe it was one of the tunes they played on the _Titanic_, but haven’t been able to identify it so far.

Yes, I was aware of that, thank you. I once worked with one of his descendants (great-granddaughter, IIRC) in Czechoslovakia.
