I finally opened the new thread. You poor people have a problem. I promise if I ever hit it big I’ll donate a ton of money to open a rehab clinic to help you all out. Be strong, you can kick this habit. I believe in you. ---

Did the judge say “I am biased”? No. Would bias be at all surprising? No. I think two things are at play in most child custody issues that go to court. 1. Women generally do more of the child care, and are more likely to get custody because of it. And they do more of the child care in large part because they are expected to. 2. Judges think women are superior caregivers and will favor women in some cases where the woman should not be favored. This is a MUCH smaller effect, but it does crop up on occasion. As time goes on, this is getting less and less common. (The custody battle over my niece was 14-15 years ago.) ---

It’s not that I don’t understand the temptation, but it should have been obvious months ago that NOTHING is going to get through to him. You may think that if you could just find the right way to explain the many, many ways in which he’s gone wrong then it’ll make a difference, but it won’t. He isn’t in GD to debate, he’s there to witness. (In fairness, it is the appropriate forum for that.) Anyone who thinks that they’re going to be the one to get **LinusK** to do anything other than continue to regurgitate the same misogynistic garbage he’s been spewing for months is fooling themselves. Worse still, you’re encouraging him to keep it up. He’s clearly not getting tired of lengthy, repetitive threads that go nowhere, and it’s not like they require a lot of effort on his part. Most of his posts are either largely cut and pasted from elsewhere or are restatements of things he’s previously said. It is a complete waste of time and energy to treat this as worthy of a thoughtful response. ---

Anyway, it’s my sincere hope that things have changed significantly in the past 15 years wrt courts making these kinds of decisions. ---

My anecdotal but anecdotal-as-a-person-litigating-custody experience has been that in cases where the custodial arrangement is contested, judges are giving fathers additional time more often than they are taking time away from fathers. Of course, many custody disputes arise where the status quo is already that mom is the primary custodian, so the judge giving dad more time (i.e. giving him 3 nights a week instead of the 2 he’d previously been content with) doesn’t mean that someone like our boy would consider that outcome one where the dad “won custody.” But they get what they ask for more often than moms get what they ask for, in those cases, based upon what I think has become a judicial shift toward being more sympathetic to fathers. Stuff like the above is why I keep opening those fucking threads, incidentally. I imagine there are budding Linuses out there who aren’t actively participating in the threads but are occasionally reading. And he just lies so much about so many things. ---
