Igors suck hard. So do the werewolves. I like the early books better. I just skip Igor dialog now.
ell, the funniest part about igor in the watch is that he doesn’t lithp all the time…he hath a speech impediment…
Pleathe add a W up there…sheeth.
You pick Earth Day to rant against the greatest recyclers of all time? For shame.

How was that book, anyway? I was tempted to buy it when it first came out (and I definitely had it on all of my holiday/birthday “want” lists), but I couldn’t rationalize my curiosity enough to wrap my wallet around the sucker. Is it worth it?

I’d say yes, but I haven’t met a Pratchett book I didn’t dislike. Yes, I even enjoyed Strata and The Dark Side of the Sun.
Anyway, The Last Hero is great, and does a good job of mixing in jokes and various cameos along with reflections on the meaning of life, heroism, and gods (not necessarily in that order). There’s a climactic showdown with Cohen and [DELETED] at Dunnmanifestin that made my jaw drop the first time I read it, just for the realization of how The Law works. And, of course, there’s page after page after page of glorious Paul Kidby art – he’s crammed so much insane stuff in there that’s easily worth the cover price alone (Leonard’s sketches, in particular, deserve close scrutiny).
Boffo stuff, go grab it already.
That’s EXACTLY what I was thinking when I read that, lol. Terry Pratchett is far and away one of my all-time favorite authors, he’s to fantasy what Douglas Adams was to Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. I don’t think anything will EVER trigger my funny bone than a good healthy dose of really witty, dry British humor. I most love the Lord Vetinari-Commander Vimes line, and I have to say I adore the Igors. (Just finished reading The Truth, and Otto has completely made me rethink the vampires he does, haha, that was a GREAT character!) The Witches are my second favorite; the relationship between Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg never ceases to make me laugh. I’ve got to say, the Rincewind ones are the ones I like the least. I’ve always felt the Faculty of Unseen University make great sub-plot characters, but as main focuses of the book, I’ve always felt they were the most cartoonish with the least substance.
Sold!
I loved it too, incidentally. In some ways, it’s one of the best.
I don’t mind the Igors. They don’t detract and often add to the scenes they’re in.
I would, however, beg TP to relegate the witches to cameo roles only. I do not now, nor shall I ever, really care for the witch books that much. THEY were a one time gag whose time has past.
