Though it’s a bit dated, I’m currently reading a collection of “Carnacki, the Ghost Finder” stories, and I’m finding them to be truly chilling. I would highly recommend them. ---

M. R. James’s short stories are worth reading. There aren’t a lot of them, so a "Complete Short Stories of " is a fairly slim book … but as ghost stories go, they’re among the best ever. ---

It was so nice to read a decent horror novel after years of the same old same old. She’s written other stuff too, and I’m dithering about whether to add to the TBR pile/mountain. I just remembered another excellent ghost story. Maybe it’s too quiet to be really scary, but it was a good read – **The Night Country** by Stewart O’Nan.
